Abstract
The use of lasers in periodontology has expanded considerably over the past decades, yet clinical understanding often remains limited by confusion around wavelengths, indications, and treatment modalities. This lecture will provide a clear and practical overview of laser applications in contemporary periodontal therapy, beginning with the basic principles of laser-tissue interaction and the biological significance of wavelength selection. Key laser systems used in periodontology will be reviewed, with emphasis on their specific properties, mechanisms of action, and clinical relevance.
The presentation will then examine treatment modalities in the adjunctive use of Lasers in periodontal therapy, and also biomodulation effects. Particular attention will be given to what current scientific evidence actually supports, helping clinicians distinguish established indications from overstated claims.
By moving from fundamental concepts to real-world clinical decision-making, this lecture aims to provide participants with an evidence-based understanding of how lasers can be integrated into periodontal practice safely, predictably, and effectively. The audience will leave with a clearer perspective on where lasers add value, what limitations still exist, and what we can confidently say today about their role in periodontology.
